JET STREAM Part name

Part Names

With an extraordinary 80 individual components, this fly reel contains far more parts than most modern reels—on par with spinning reels.
While this level of complexity is hidden from view, the internal structure is multi-axial.
Despite the high part count, our proprietary metal treatment has made the reel remarkably lightweight.
Every single component is proudly MADE IN JAPAN.

Because the reel is built from finely divided parts, if something breaks, it can be restored with minimal replacement—no need for full-unit replacements.

Why so many parts?

Some fly reels are marketed as “fewer parts for greater durability,” but the reality is that if even one integrated component fails, the entire unit often becomes unusable.
For example, if the foot, body, and center shaft are inseparable, and one part breaks, the whole assembly becomes useless.

You can rest assured: having more parts does not mean the reel is more prone to breakage.

Crafted from Solid Bar Stock

Our reels are fully machined from solid bar stock materials.
Note that there’s a major difference between:

  • A. True bar-stock machining
  • B. So-called “machined aluminum” or “aluminum cut” reels

While these may sound similar, they are completely different.

Some reels advertised as “machined aluminum” are actually made from die-cast aluminum molds, with only the surface lightly cut to appear machined. Technically, this isn’t false advertising—but it is misleading.

The difference lies in the quality of the aluminum.

Extremely cheap reels, or those that don’t specify the aluminum type, are typically made with method B.

Die casting takes less than a minute per spool mold. The post-process cutting takes just seconds, as only the surface is trimmed.

Although the surface may look like a machined product, the core material is cast aluminum.
If you drop such a reel, it can crack like a ceramic bowl.

In contrast, true bar-stock reels (method A) will not break from impact.
Bar stock aluminum and die-cast aluminum are fundamentally different in structure and durability.

Genuine Japanese Material

At our factory, we use aluminum bar stock (6061 grade) sourced from major Japanese material manufacturers, who guarantee uncompromising quality.
These materials are used in all critical components, including the body and spool.

Unfamiliar Part Names?

Since our reels include features not found in conventional designs, some of the part names may be unfamiliar.

Please note that due to continuous improvements, parts used in the same model may change without prior notice.

  • Foot stopper
Secures the reel foot during reel fights for added stability.
  • Front drag
Provides fine brake control in low-resistance ranges and adjusts the thrust of the Recoil Thruster Engine.
  • FOV guide bar
    Variable line guide

Rear side (image is swallowR2)

  • Flexible Turning Wing
Variable wing to change the position of the main body
  • Tension Knob
Adjusts the clamping force between the reel body and the two turning wings.
  • Main Drag
    Brake control for high-power zones.
  • Recoil Thruster Housing
Houses the internal Recoil Thruster Engine.
  • Waterproof Valve
Prevents water from entering the Recoil Thruster system.
  • FOV Guide Wing
Adjustable line guide wing for precise line control.
  • Finger Protector
Equipped to protect your fingers from the rotating spool when operating the main drag.Without this protector, there is a serious risk of your fingers getting caught or severely injured during intense fights with big fish.
  • Thruster
Used for collecting and retrieving lines Pull this to rotate the spool

  • Foot stopper
Secures the reel foot during reel fights for added stability.
  • Front drag
Provides fine brake control in low-resistance ranges and adjusts the thrust of the Recoil Thruster Engine.

Rear side (Image is FALCON R3)

  • Flexible Turning Wing
An adjustable wing that allows you to change the reel’s body position.
  • Tension Knob
Adjusts the clamping force between the main body and the two wings.
  • Main Drag
Provides brake control in the power range.
  • Recoil Thruster Housing
Encloses the internal Recoil Thruster Engine.
  • Waterproof Valve
Prevents water intrusion into the Recoil Thruster mechanism.
  • Single-Hand Line Guide Attachment
Attach when using with a single-hand setup to prevent line wrap.
Remove when using a double-hand setup, as the line may get pinched.
  • Finger Protector
Equipped to shield your fingers from the rotating spool when operating the main drag.
Without this protector, there is a risk of severe finger injury during intense fights with large fish.
  • Thruster
Used for collecting and retrieving lines Pull this to rotate the spool

OSPREY RAPTOR Single-Hand Line Guide Attachment (Optional)

When using the OSPREY or RAPTOR in single-hand style, we recommend attaching the optional line guide attachment.
(Note: The FALCON comes standard with this attachment.)

This guide helps prevent the line from wrapping around the back of the reel and crossing over to the opposite side.

When using a double-hand rod, please either remove the attachment or slide it upward before use.

Please note that product specifications are subject to change without notice for the purpose of improvement. Thank you for your understanding.
